Five-Minute Friday – Deny
How often have you heard (or said) “I would do anything for you.”?
The speaker may mean those words in the moment, but keeping that promise is a different story altogether.
26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who are watching it will begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build, and was not able to finish!’ – Luke 14:26-30 NASB
When the rubber meets the road, are you willing to give up everything you know and love for the sake of Christ, or will you DENY Christ in order to maintain your comfortable lifestyle.
On this Good Friday, I ask you:
Are you counting the cost of your decisions?
Is it time to shed your worldly ambition?
Is it time to deepen your relationship with Christ?
Are you going to DENY Christ or DENY the world!
Those are wonderful questions to contemplate, especially on this Good Friday.

Every situation and temptation can come down to that question, Barb, “Are we going to deny Christ or the world?” We literally choose that time and time again.

Looks like we both took a tour of self examination. Wonderful questions to ask ourselves, but it’s hard not to when we reflect on all Jesus did for us! That teaching you quote from Luke is a tough one. But He restores and forgives us every time we fail.
