It’s hard to believe that we are nearly half-way through 2022. That being said, Lisa Burgess, hostess extraordinaire, of One Word 2022, posed the following:
How would you answer these questions?
Think about them this month. Talk them over with fellow One-Worders or with a friend. Pray for wisdom in how you’d like to answer these same questions at the end of the year.
1. WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS WORD?
In 2022 as in prior years my WOTY was given to me by God.
- 2020 – Attitude of Gratitude
- 2021 – Abide
- 2022 – Encouragement
There seems to be a natural progression from one to the other, which leads me to ponder what word God has planned for 2023.
2. WHY IS THAT GOAL IMPORTANT TO ME?
As I give authentic, loving encouragement to others I am spreading the love of Christ in new ways.
The amazing thing is, as I listen to and follow God’s prompting, He blesses me in unimaginable ways.
3. WHY IS THIS WORD HELPING ME THIS YEAR OR NOT HELPING ME?
No matter how hard we try, or how much time we have…we can’t out-give God. Notwithstanding, it is a pleasant distraction to try.

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. – Hebrews 3:13 ESV
My word is”begin” because even at almost 70 I felt God wanted to create in me a new thing. I soon realized it was not a remake or a refresh, but a brand new thing…and man is he!

I’m glad I’m not the only one already listening to God for my 2023 word. Unless he redirects me later, I think I have it already. I love your progression of words from 2020 to now!

Thank you Barb for reminding me!
It has been a busy & difficult year but as I ponder the Word the Lord highlighted to me it is most apt for the last 6 months & that word is Ask! 🙏
You do indeed encourage us,
Bless you,
Jennifer

Amen! We can never out-give God, but we sure can encourage one another. May we encourage as we are being encouraged. Blessings to you, Barb!

The love of Christ does flow through loving encouragement to others, Barb. May the Lord continue to encourage you and give you grace as you and your family walk through this season.
