This prayer scares the socks off of me….but the rewards (blessings) of surrender are so much bigger than my fear! It was not written by me but the feelings it evokes are no less real.
Father,
I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.
Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures –
I wish no more than this, O Lord.
Into your hands I commend my soul:
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.
Yes, this is a scary prayer, that’s because we give ourselves to God in portions.
Can we be like that widow who gave her two cents, which was all she had, and not like those who gave of their abundance, no matter the size, yet not completely?
Jesus is still watching.
God bless you.

I agree.
We do give ourselves to God in portions, and as we do, we get to know Him more and more. We experience that He is trustworthy, He does care deeply for us…so we give Him more of us. A beautiful friendship and trust with God develops and grows. And it becomes, a little bit less scary each time we release ourselves, a situation, everything we are facing…to Him.

Very nice post Barb. This prayer – if truly from the heart is beautiful. That being said, I am not so much for living in isolation as Charles de Foucauld chose to do, but then each of us has our own calling. Jesus asks us every Christian to abandon all we know for His sake. What form that will take only He can determine.

The best of my life is now, after learning how to completely give myself to Him. He doesn’t disappoint and I don’t necessarily mean materialistically, but just in the peace that comes in knowing that the One who knows all will take care of EVERY detail. With that being said, it is an ongoing process each and every day, learning to place ourselves completely into His hands but, oh, how worth it!

Well ya. It’s a bit like climbing into a roller coaster seat without bein able to see where the tracks go. But we can see the end and dad’s over there.

True, Gary! Once the rollercoaster starts, you have no control, and all you can do is hang on. It may be fun, it may be terrifying, depending on how much trust you have. But pleasant or unpleasant, you’ll survive the ride. You may as well have fun. 😉

I saw a sign outside a local church this week that said. God does not promise a smooth ride but he does provide a soft landing!

I like that sign. My life has been a wild ride. Now I’m kind of “out to pasture”

Wow, what a prayer. The kind we can only pray by His strength and grace. Grateful that He can do this in us and for us. Lord knows I can’t do it on my own.
Weekend blessings to you, Barb …
