The last few months have been weird to say the least. And to be perfectly honest, I am ready to be done with sheltering-in-place & wearing a mask when I leave the house.
BUT there have also been some bright spots. One of which is sharing communion with those in our household while our fellow church members did the same. Even before the pandemic, our church was streaming Sunday services via Facebook Live. The differnce is, the sanctuary is mostly empty & we are all at home sitting on the couch or at the kitchen table.
(I apologize for falling down the rabbit hole for a minute. This is supposed to be about the celebration of the Lord’s Supper)
We typically celebrate communion one Sunday a month and occasionally during a midweek service or other special occasion. In keeping with tradition we have now made three (3) trips to the virtual communion table. Each household prepares their own elements and has them ready before the service starts. It doesn’t matter if we have the proper wine/grape juice or the perfect unleavened bread. What matters is that our hearts are prepared to come before the Lord.
“While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” – Matthew 26:26-28
I think the Lord would not mind that rabbit hole, He’d understand.
And yes, meaningful post. This is what Communion really is, na?

We have been doing the same here too. Although I miss being at church, there is something special about doing it this way too.

I think of the Lord’s table often through His Word and in prayer. His body given for us and His blood shed for us . . . I lay my transgressions at the Cross.
